A trip to Bengkulu
This photo was taken on 13 May 2007 at Bengkulu beach. On the right is Pak Lim Gim Seong, standing beside him is Pak Goh Boon Huk, and I am standing by the side of Pak Fauzul (Pak Lim's driver). Pak LGS and me decided to meet up Pak GBH in Bengkulu after I dropped in his kebun in Pauh to see his new planting on peat on 12.5.2007. His kebun is about 3 hours drive from Jambi.

Pakloh, thank you for posting the photo and a brief write up on our trip to Bengkulu. It was indeed my greatest pleasure to have your good company traveling long hours to Bengkulu to meet up our good friend, GBH, not forgetting the sumptious dinner we had in Kemuning Restaurant. This will surely linger in my mind for a very long long time.
Dear KP,
Your blog is getting popular, keep it up. Please publish more pictures of your place of work and Jambi so that we who have not been there can see what life is like out there and the work of a planter. I have a glimpse of it thru your stories and pictures. More please, tq. They are interesting and informative.
Let me take u down memory lane a bit. I remember you as a good artist and a great fan of Elvis and Cliff. I'm also a great fan of the two and I used to 'tumpang' your place listening to the songs in the famous 'Bangawali Tailor shop' owned by your pampering dad. I think it's the only Chinese owned shop with an Indian sounding name. Unique, is't it. I just wonder how all the non English speaking Chinese tailors in the shop tolerated your blasting of 'It's Now or Never', 'Please Don't Tease ' or the Shadows' 'Apache' thru the speakers over their heads. Of course, we teenagers then enjoyed them, but those poor Chinese educated tailors? Maybe they put cotton into their ears. Who dared to say anything if the boss himself didn't complain? Period. I also remember during CNY, you and your Bangawali gang painted the town red with fireworks in the middle of Main Street. Those were the days, my friend when bullock carts shared the roads with automobiles.
You 'Follow that Dream'and now u are a Xifu Planter, giving advice and teaching 'The Young Ones' the rules of the game. But 'Don't be Cruel' to them. So when are u taking your 'Summer Holiday' and go back to your 'Green,Green Grass of Home'? Bc ' Home is Where the Heart is'.

Here's a song dedicated to Planters.
(Sung to the tune of 'The Sound of Music)
The trees are alive
To the sound of music
The song they have sung for a hundred years
The trees feel my heart
To the sound of Ringgit
My heart wants to sing the song
of the trees and the fruits on the oil palm trees
To sing to the trees
Looking forward to reap my rewards
at the end of the month.

Do you know that there was a Malaysian Lawyer on the TITANIC when she sank?
No. Who?
Karam Singh, of course.
One day an English gentleman was walking past a man resting on a bench in a park.
He asked: Are you resting?
Answer: No, I'm Sohan Singh.

A proud factory manager once boasted:
"My factory is fully mechanised, all work are by robots. There is no need for human workers."
A year later, the manager was out of job. He was replaced by a computer.
Cliff Richard sang "Bachelor Boy" and became a success and remains the same since.
Talk of getting married? Ponder these first:
When a man gets married, he loses his bachelor's degree. His wife gains her masters.
In the household, the husband is the general and the wife is the major. The husband makes general decisions while the wife makes major ones.
When the Beatles sang " Money Can't Buy Me Love " in the 60s, Paul Macarthy found this out in 2007. He is now in the midst of a nasty divorse with his wife.
