PARENTS & CHILREN






A simple man tells how his booking an air ticket for his father, his
first flight, brought emotions and made him realize that how much we
all take for granted when it comes to our parents.

My parents left for our native place on Thursday and we went to the airport to see them off. In fact, my father had never traveled by air before, so I just took this opportunity to make him experience the same. In spite of being asked to book tickets by train, I got them tickets on MAS.

The moment I handed over the tickets to him, he was surprised to see that I had booked them by air. The excitement was very apparent on his face, waiting for the time of travel. Just like a school boy, he was preparing himself on that day and we all went to the airport, right from using the trolley for his luggage, the baggage check-in and asking for window seat and waiting restlessly for the security check-in to happen.

He was thoroughly enjoying himself and I, too, was overcome with joy watching him experience all these things.

As they were about to go in for the security check-in, he walked up to me with tears in his eyes and thanked me. He became very emotional and it was not as if I had done something great but the fact that this meant a great deal to him.

When he said thanks, I told him there was no need to thank me.

But later, thinking about the entire incident, I looked back at my life.

As a child how many dreams our parents have made come true. Without understanding the financial situation, we ask for football, dresses, toys, outings, etc. Irrespective of their affordability, they have satisfied to all our needs. Did we ever think about the sacrifices they had to make to accommodate many of our wishes?

Did we ever say thanks for all that they have done for us?

Same way, today when it comes to our children, we always think that we should put them in a good school. Regardless of the amount of donation, we will ensure that we will have to give the child the best, theme parks, toys, etc. But we tend to forget that our parents have sacrificed a lot for our sake to see us happy, so it is our responsibility to ensure that their dreams are realized and what they failed to see when they were young, it is our responsibility to ensure that they experience all those and their life is complete.

Many times, when my parents had asked me some questions, I have actually answered back without patience. When my daughter asks me something, I have been very polite in answering. Now I realize how they would have felt at those moments.

Let us realize that old age is a second childhood and just as we take care of our children, the same attention and same care need to be given to our parents and elders.

Rather than my dad saying thank you to me, I would want to say sorry for making him wait so long for this small dream. I do realize how much he has sacrificed for my sake and I will do my best to give the best possible attention to all their wishes. Just because they are old does not mean that they will have to give up everything and keep sacrificing for their grandchildren also. They have wishes, too.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR PARENTS!!!

Something to share...

I am very grateful to my late parents for their decision sending me, their eldest son, to further my studies in Taiwan in 1965 and to England in 1972. My late father was a tailor and he hired other tailors in the rented shop in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. My late mother was an ordinary housewife but she had to cook meals not only for our family but also for the tailors in the shop. Later, they also sent my two younger brothers to study in Australia.

I always feel proud of them for the sacrifice they had made to provide me the opportunities of higher education abroad despite of the difficult financial situation they had to face at that time. Without their strong determination and commitment, I wouldn’t have the chances to study in foreign countries and later became a planter with my Agriculture degree from National Taiwan University and MSc degree in Advanced Plant Sciences from Wye College, University of London. Just like our parents. I and my wife also committed ourselves by sending all our five children to further their studies overseas; 2 in America and 3 in Australia. Praise The Lord!

As parents we do not expect much return from our children. Nevertheless, as we are aging, gracefully of course, we do hope that they can be more patience to us and never forget to be tender, love and care for us as we grow older and older….

A TRIP TO TEMBILAHAN, RIAU






My wife was supposed to take Mandala airlines from Jambi to Batam on 29.8.2007, ETD 1510WIB and the ticket was purchased on 28th and confirmed. However, something unbelievable and unexpected happened. On 29th morning @ 0900WIB we were told that the flight was cancelled and there would be no flight to Batam till 12th September. Accordingly, the plane was grounded for thorough checking and repair. The flight has not been resumed at time of publishing. As told, it has been postponed to 25th September.

My ticketing staff after checking with the travel agent told us that my wife could take Batavia flight to Batam via Jakarta but seats were only available on 1.9.2007. Since I was going to Pekanbaru to meet up my VA on 3.9.2007, it was decided for her to take a flight from Pekanbaru to Batam taking the opportunity to visit her cousin sister who was married and settled down in Tembilahan. It is a costal town in Riau Province about 88km from Rengat, mid way to Pekanbaru.

My wife and her cousin sister grew up in Sumpat of Pulau Bintan. Their grandfathers were brothers. In the 70s, her cousin sister was working in Tanjung Pinang and my wife went to work in Batam, where we met and fell in love. We were married in June 1975 and settled down in Segamat, Johor, Malaysia. Her cousin sister was married the same year and settled down in Tembilahan. Since then, both of them have not met each other for the past 30 years.

The trip to Tembilahan was, indeed, meaningful and quite emotional for my wife. She was very excited for making the trip though the journey took about 8 long hours of traveling. The road to Rengat from Jambi was winding and our vehicle was slowed down by trailing behind big trucks and buses. The road from Rengat to Tembilahan was narrow and houses were built so close to roadside that our driver had to drive very cautiously with extra carefulness and alertness. To our astonishment, we had to cross for not less than 100 bridges before we could enter Kota Tembilahan.

With the address given to us, it was not difficult to locate their shop house along Jalan Jendela Sudirman. Nevertheless, we had to call her several times to make the right turn as we came into Kota Tembilahan. We left Jambi @0730WIB and arriving Tembilahan @1630WIB. We stopped for lunch at Rengat @1400WIB for about an hour.

When they met for the first time after not seeing each other for the past 30 years, there was so much excitement and joy with tears. They talked for hours, full of happiness, all about their good old days until we had to make move to check into the hotel @1900WIB. The conversation resumed when we went for dinner @2000WIB until we went back to hotel @2230WIB.

I wish our children after reading this amazing incidence will remind them that somehow “blood is always thicker than water”. They must value their brotherhood and sisterhood as they get married and having their own families later on. Always get in touch with each other. Whenever there is an opportunity to meet, don’t call. Call only if cannot meet but don’t just sms to save cost. It is much closer to hear each other voice than to read short messages. I used to call my late mother every night. I call my wife without fail whenever we are not together. I also call my 2 younger brothers and my only sister quite often when they don’t call me after some time. Life is full of joy and happiness when we always love and care about our dear ones. Indeed, this is God’s blessings on every family. Praise the Lord.

TODAY NOT TOMORROW



When I came across this signboard one day in Kuala Lumpur, some inspiration went straight into my mind and I felt that I could use it to make a powerpoint presentation to motivate my plantation management staff in Indonesia. So I took out my camera to snap a shot of this signboard.

Whenever my old pal, JM Tan, emailed me, he used to remind me of all the favourite songs we used to sing along during our good old time in Clifford Secondary School, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. "TODAY NOT TOMORROW" reminds me of Elvis Presley's "IT'S NOW OR NEVER". This has to do with TIME MANAGEMENT.

GOD is good and fair. He created 24 hours for one day, not a second more nor a second less for everybody. So we have 8 hours to work, 8 hours to rest and 8 hours to sleep, and that's very ideal for everyone. Of course there are people who work more than 8 hours a day, but there are also people who sleep more than 8 hours a day!

For an workaholic, he always feels that he has insufficient working time. So he works and works and keeps on working for hours, forgetting that he needs a break to rest. Worst of all, he expects others to have same working attitude like him. But there are also people who dare not leave their offices after working hours just because their bosses are still around.

There is nothing wrong in working hard, but it's better to work smart as well, meaning that we have to optimise our available working time. By working smart, we can actually get work done on time if we really focus and dedicate ourself to "DO IT NOW" instead of wait and see. Very often, we are wasting our time by slow action or no action at all.

A job well done is able to finish our job "TODAY NOT TOMORROW" because there will be new job waiting for us to do tomorrow. "IT'S NOW OR NEVER" is a positive attitude as far as TIME MANAGEMENT is concerned. Pak Sungkimin, one of our Senior Plantation Managers, used to wear a cap with a phrase "TOMORROW WILL NEVER COME" stitched on it. I praised him for his positive thinking in TIME MANAGEMENT!

Just for joking, an I.D.I.O.T. is " I Do It On Time". Surely we are not idiots if we can do our job done on time! Hahaha.....

HONEY CURES



It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. A famous magazine named Weekly World News published in Canada dated 17 January 1995, had given a list of diseases than can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists. Honey can be used without any side effects for all kinds of diseases. Scientists of today also accept honey as Ram Ban (very effective) medicines for all kinds of diseases. Today’s science says that, even though honey is sweet, if taken at the right dosage as a medicine, it will not harm diabetic patients.

Arthritis

In a recent research done in Copenhagen University, the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of 1 tablespoon honey with half a teaspoon of Cinnamon powder before breakfast. They found that out of 200 people treated, 73 patients were totally relieved of pain within a month. Most of these patients could not walk or move around freely, but after the therapy, they started walking with less pain.

Make a paste of 1 part honey & 2 parts luke warm water and a small teaspoon Cinnamon powder. Massage itching part of body slowly.(Pain should recede within 15 minutes!)

Drink 1 cup of hot water mixed with 2 spoon of honey + 1 small teaspoon of Cinnamon powder everyday. (Can cure chronic arthritis!)<

Bad Breath

1st thing in morning gargle with 1 teaspoon honey + Cinnamon powder mixed in hot water. (Breath stays fresh throughout the day!)

Bladder Infections

Drink 1 teaspoon honey + 2 tablespoons Cinnamon powder in a glass of luke warm water. (It destroys germs of bladder!)<

Cancer
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully.

Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should take 1 tablespoon honey + 1 teaspoon Cinnamon powder 3 times a day for 1 month. Continue with Oncologist’s treatment. (No Harm Lost!)

Cholesterol

As per information received in a Medical Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

2 tablespoons of honey + 3 teaspoons of Cinnamon powder in 16 ounces of tea. (Can reduce cholesterol level in blood by 10% within 2 hours! As for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, it lowers the cholesterol level.)

Many of us in Jambi Regional Office have started taking pure honey taken from the pokok sialang quite close to our BPE kebun. The purchase was arranged through estate management of PT BBIP at Rp 30,000.00 per 1 liter bottle and its pureness has been guaranteed. I and Pak Leong KH were cheated once of buying honey mixed with brown sugar and egg white. We can buy a bottle of 35g Cinnamon (Kayu Manis) powder @ Rp 5,000.00 in any supermarkets or malls in town.

Honey is good for us. As it was written in Proverbs 24:13a & 25:16, God said,” My child, eat honey; it is good.” However, he warned,” Never eat more honey than you need; too much may make you vomit.” This has been explained by Dr Elizabeth Subrata, an Indoneisan Christian doctor, in her book “Rahasia Umur Panjang” (Secret of Long Life) that honey contains substance than will prohibit the intake of honey more than required to avoid the increase of glucose level in the blood.

She further talked about the benefits of honey:

• Honey contains several types of enzyme, minerals, 18 amino acids and vitamins which help in digestion, absorption and assimilation.

• Honey possesses more nutrients than other sugar products.

• Honey is able to destroy bacteria & other microorganism.

• Honey contains several natural antibiotics which have effective function of healing the infested open wounds.

Always replace white sugar with honey for health’s sake. No more soft drinks or syrup drinks. (Accordingly, a can of soft drink contains 6 teaspoons of sugar. This is harmful to the body especially for those people having high sugar content in their blood.)

Decision Making


The story given here is quite interesting and really gives us an insight into DECISION MAKING

Which one will you choose?
A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other disused. Only one child played on the disused track, the rest on the operational track.

The train came, and you were just beside the track interchange. It was not possible to stop the train but you could make the train change its course to the disused track and saved most of the kids.

However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Alternatively, would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make...

Analyse the situation………….

Decided your answer!

Now … go ahead

Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. To save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally.

However, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was.

This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are.

The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. In addition, in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

To make the proper decision is not try to change the course of the train because the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens.

If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe.

If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! In addition, in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one. "Remember that what's right isn't always popular... and what's popular isn't always right."

Something to share….

Making an impulsive or a hasty decision is not the real decision to be made. An impulsive decision such as diverting the train can turn into a disaster in not only killing one child but also putting all train passengers at great risk of being killed and wounded too.

At times, we used to make ad hoc decision just to find a way out at the critical moment of time or during crisis management. However, such an impromptu decision may not be applicable to all circumstances. Nevertheless, we need to keep making decisions according to different issues and circumstances. A decision made is still better than no decision made!

Whereas some people just can’t make decisions. They will wait and see what is going to happen. Indecisiveness is, in fact, their real problem!

A right decision may not be a popular decision. So what? How could one make a popular decision but not a right one?

Winner or Loser




Have you ever read “Born Loser” comic? If you have read and think that you were born to lose, then believe me, you are most likely not a winner. That’s because you believe so. You are what you think you are! Then you’ll go to bed as a loser. When you weak up the following morning, you will still remain a loser! On the other hand, if you believe in yourself and go to bed thinking yourself as a winner, you’ll get up as a winner. Yes. You are what you think you are.

God created us not by chance. Do you know that we are actually a “Born Winner”? If you have the fundamental knowledge, then you could have realized that you were the first to reach there, in your mother’s womb. Oh yes. You had beaten the rest, hundreds and thousands in number, to get into the ripe ovary. You had won the race to gain life!

There is a “Winner” in every one of us. Therefore, as a winner, you must able to discover and expose your winning potential. You have to develop and maintain a winning attitude. Do you want to know what makes a winner?

• You got to get excited and stay excited all the time in order to keep winning many races in life. In other words, you must have the courage and boldness, deep down inside you, to get up and go for it while others are quitting due to worries and fears. You believe that it can be done and you can do it.

• A winner will never point finger to others and pass the buck. Do not blame others but yourself. You are the one who are supposed to shoulder the responsibility for your own mistakes. A work not done is not done. There are no excuses!

By having a positive attitude, you can do what needs to be done no matter how difficult or impossible the circumstance.

In Matthew 19:26, Jesus looked straight at His disciples and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Trust in the Lord. He will show you the way. Then you will find ways and means to do the impossible rather than to make excuses not to do the possible.

• When you are “down”, make sure you have someone to push you “up”. Someone keeps telling you to remain positive, to hang on for a little longer and that things will finally work out for you. Moreover, God is always there with you and to guide you. Don’t quit, that’s a loser’s attitude!

“Get all the advice you can, and you will succeed; without it you will fail” – Proverbs 15:22

• You are either committed or you are not. A total commitment certainly helps you in maintaining a positive attitude, no matter what the circumstances. Stand firm on your commitment!

“I only want to complete my mission and finish the work….” – Act 20:24

When you go to bed, look at the person in the mirror. Are you a loser or do you have a winner’s face? Thank God for what you have accomplished during the day. Feel proud of doing all that you can do for the day. Tell yourself that what you have not done, you are going to do it tomorrow. With that positive thinking and having a strong belief in yourself, you will never go to bed as a loser. Agree?

When you get up from your bed the next morning, look at the person in the mirror again. Now you are sure that you have a winner’s face. Thank God for another new day; this is going to be a great and wonderful day. Tell yourself that you have high hope and desire for all that today will bring. You intend to live every second and every minute of it fully with positive thinking. You are filled with boundless energy and you feel energetic and vigorous today. You are lively, excited, and dynamic to do all that you can do for another day. Every thing is going to be all right and every thing is going to be OK. That’s great! With a 100% commitment, you will wake up as a winner.

To All Who Dream Of An Luxurious Old Age

No More Nursing Home For Elders

A rich couple were on a cruise through the western Mediterranean abroad a princess liner. They noticed an elderly lady sitting alone at the grand stairway in the main dining room. They also observed that all the staff, ship officers, waiters, etc; all seemed very familiar with this old lady.

Curiously to find out who this lady was, they approached a waiter and asked him, thinking that she could be the ship owner. They were amazed when told that he got acquainted with her since she had been on board for the past 4 cruises.

Next evening when they met her again at the dinning room, the rich man said hello to her,“I come to know that you had been on this ship for the past 4 cruises. But I don’t understand?” “It’s cheaper than the nursing room,” the old lady replied, without a pause.

The rich man did a rough calculation. Accordingly, the average cost of a nursing room was USD 200/day. After checking with reservations at Princess, he was told that he could get a long term discount & senior discount price of USD 135/day with a saving of USD 65/day!

Moreover, while traveling on board of Princess Cruise, the benefits included

1) gratuities which would only be USD 10/day,

2) 10 meals a day or even room service of having breakfast in bed
everyday of the week,

3) as many as 3 swimming pools, workout room, free washers and
dryers, and shows ever night,

4) free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo,

5) being treated as a customer, not a patient. Easily to get help from
the entire staff by giving an extra USD 5.00 worth of tips,

6) the opportunity to meet new people every 7 or 14 days,

7) no problem in getting TV repaired, light bulb changed and
mattress replaced. Everything could be fixed and also apologized for
the inconvenience,

8) provided with clean sheets and towels without even asking,

9) being ended up in Medicare if fall and broken a hip in a nursing
room. But in the Princess ship, the unfortunate passenger would be
upgraded to a suite for the rest of his or her life.

Moreover, one could travel in the Princess ship to see South America, the Panama Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or wherever the ship’s destination. How nice?

The best of all, the rich man also realized that just in case of a sudden death on board, they would just dump the dead body over the side into the sea at no charge!

Oh yes. To all children on earth, “Please don’t send your aging parents to nursing rooms anymore. Put them on any cruise will do.” Hehehe……..

LIFE IS MEANT TO BE LIVED

Life is to be lived. No excuses. No reservations. No holding back.

An enchanting story about violinist Fritz Kreisler tells how he once
came across a beautiful instrument he wanted to acquire. When he
finally raised the money for the violin, he returned to buy it and
learned that it had already been sold to a collector.

He went to the new owner's home in order to try to persuade him to
sell the violin. But the collector said it was one of his prized
possessions and he could not let it go. The disappointed Kreisler
turned to leave, but then asked a favor. "May I play the instrument
once more before it is consigned to silence?"

Permission was granted and the great musician began to play. The
violin sang out a quality of music so beautiful that the collector
himself could only listen in wonderment. "I have no right to keep that to myself," he said after the musician finished. "The violin is yours, Mr. Kreisler. Take it into world, and let people hear it."

William Arthur Ward said, "If you believe in prayer, pray; if you
believe in serving, serve; if you believe in giving, give." For you
and I are exquisite violins -- our music is meant to be heard.

I want to live my life that way -- to take it into the world and live
it fully. I'd rather burn out than rust out. I'd rather be used up
than die not having done whatever I could...wherever I would.

I'm not talking about wearing ourselves out on over-activity.
Happiness is never found in excessive busyness. But it is found in
investing our lives in others. Saying YES when asked for a hand.
Volunteering some time for a worthwhile organization. Spending an hour with a lonely relative.

In the end, I know that my happiness will not have been about by my ability or my inability. It will have been about my availability. My life is meant to be lived. ….Steve Goodier

I believe in sharing, that’s why I like to share good stories, photos, pictures, information and experiences in my blog. How true it is that the act of sharing produces Joy!

Always make ourselves available, for “a friend in need is a friend indeed.” The most important thing in life is to help our friends or even others when they are desperate for help and assistance. When a friend is in need of a job, help him to get one through our connection. When someone is down emotionally or mentally, be there to cheer him up. When our subordinate becomes negative in thinking, talk to him and put words of encouragement into his ears so that he can be motivated and then he feels positive again. Be a candle that can be used to light another one!

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday."

Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

"Jack, did you hear me?"

"Oh sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him.
I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.

"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.

"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.

"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said.

"He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.

Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time on the night before he returned home. Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture....Jack stopped suddenly.

"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.

"The box is gone," he said.

"What box?" Mom asked.

"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was the thing I value most," Jack said. It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.

"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. There was no one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read.

Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read.

Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside. "Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life."

A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover.

Inside he found these words engraved: "Jack Thanks for your time! - Harold Belser. "

"The thing he valued most...was...my time," Jack murmured to himself. He held the watch for a few minutes then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.

"I need some time to spend with my son," he said. "Oh, by the way, Janet... thanks for your time!"

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"

Something to share:

The so-called “Occupational Hazard” is quite true for planters who work in plantations far away from towns. When our children are below school-going age, they can stay with us in the plantations. That's the time we can be with our wife and our children most of the time. However, when our children started going to schools, most of us have to station our families in towns. We can only have time for our families during weekends, public holidays and during our annual leave. The question is, “Do we spend more time with them when we have the time?”

Whenever I think back of the past memories, I do regret that I did not spend much time with my children when they were young even though I had the time to do so. When they have grown up, they have their own circle of friends, colleagues, and even their own families, and then they will have very little time for their parents.

Now it looks like that I can only spend time with them through sms. Consider lucky when they make a call once in a blue moon. My friends, are you feeling the same way as I do? Or do you have to travel long distance to visit your grown up children in far away towns?

Importance Of Having Breakfast



Breakfast can help prevent strokes, heart attack and sudden death.

ADVICE ON NOT TO SKIP BREAKFAST

For those who always skip breakfast, you should stop that habit now! You've heard many times that "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Now, recent research confirms that one of the worst practices you can develop may be avoiding breakfast.

Why?

Because the frequency of heart attacks, sudden death, and stroke peaks between 6:00a.m. and noon, with the highest incidence being between 8: 00a.m. and 10:00a.m.What mechanism within the body could account for this significant jump in sudden death in the early morning hours?

We may have an Answer.
Platelet, tiny elements in the blood that keep us from bleeding to Death if we get a cut, can clump together inside our arteries due to cholesterol or plaque buildup in the artery lining. It is in the morning hours that platelets become the most activated and tend to form these internal blood clots at the greatest frequency.

However, eating even a very light breakfast prevents the morning platelet activation that is associated with heart attacks and strokes. Studies performed at Memorial University in St.Johns, Newfoundland found that eating a light, very low-fat breakfast was critical in modifying the morning platelet activation. Subjects in the study consumed either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit, and a source of protein coming from yogurt or fat-free milk. So if you skip breakfast, it's important that you change this practice immediately in light of this research.

Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran Flakes, along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice, and perhaps a piece of fruit.

This simple plan will keep your platelets from sticking together, keep blood clots from forming, and perhaps head off a potential Heart Attack or stroke.

SO NEVER EVER SKIP BREAKFAST!

We have often heard or have been told that we should "eat like a King" in the mornings meaning that the breakfast we take is able to provide us energy and vitality throughout the morning. To start work with an empty stomach will definitely affects our alertness in performance as we will soon feel hungry and lack of energy.

Some people have the habit of eating breakfast late and skip their lunch. So they prefer to have "brunch" instead of breakfast and lunch. This may upset our digestion system! Afterall, what I understand is that "breakfast" is to break the fast during our sleeping time when we do not have any food consumption. By the time we wake up, our stomach is already empty and it's time to take in new food to get the digestion system resuming its work.

Now we learn that if we skip breakfast, we are putting great risk of getting heart attack or stroke, we better think twice on the importance of taking breakfast.

Lesson 1:

God is great. When God created human beings, He said,” I have provided all kinds of grain and all kinds of fruit for you to eat, but for all the wild animals and for all the birds I have provided grass and leafy plants for food.” (Genesis 1:29-30)

For a healthy living, we need to eat smart in balance, moderation and variety. I remember a Chinese saying on healthy eating, “Eat till 70% full”. In other words, do not overeat.

We must have a better choice of food on grains & cereals, beans and nuts, vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins & minerals. However, we are advised to eat right amount (neither too much nor too little) Complex Carbohydrate food at each meal. Try to avoid food of high fat & high cholesterol. Limit egg yolk to 3 – 4 per week but egg whites are allowed. Kampong chicken eggs are preferred. No salty food. No salted snacks food such as prawn crackers, potato crips, salted peanuts & groundnuts. Restrict to a cup of coffee & tea a day but not more than 2 cups. Instead, drink more water & Chinese tea (preferably green tea). For those who believe red wine is good for health, limit to one small grass (@125ml) a day.

Nevertheless, we need not be a vegetarian. I have come across guidelines for consumption of meat & seafood which are good protein source for a healthy eating:

Read lean meat (beef, mutton, pork): once a week
Seafood : once in 2 weeks
Chicken (remove skin & fat) : 2 – 3 times a week
Fish (high in omega-3 fatty acids) : > 3 times a week

Remember, we “EAT TO LIVE” and not “LIVE TO EAT”!

Fruit Juices Good For You





Something to share….

Besides acquiring the correct way of eating fresh fruits, I have also enjoyed drinking fresh fruit juices. All we need to do is to buy a citrus juice press, a blender and a juicer. We can mix all types of fruit to suit our taste and our health purpose as illustrated. In fact, with such a huge variety of fruits available, there are hundreds and even thousands of combinations possible!

I use a citrus juice press to squeeze citrus fruit such as a glass of fresh orange, or lemon, or grapefruit juice for my breakfast. Of course we can also mix oranges lemon or lime with red grapefruit for our breakfast and this mixture of citrus juice helps to supply energy quickly in the mornings.

With a blender, I have been enjoying drinking freshly blended papaya juice mixed with low fat milk, juice of avocado + honey, and mango juice.

To get the taste of fresh apple juice, pineapple juice, watermelon juice, carrot juice, or a mixed fruit juice (my favourite is a mix of green apple, green pepper, English gourd, bitter gourd and celery), a centrifuge juicer is normally used. It takes me only about 10 minutes to clean up after juicing.

With one fruit drink a day, we are actually eating about 3 to 5 fruits to fulfill our daily nutritious requirement. It is, therefore, advisable to acquire the good habit of drinking fresh fruit juice instead of taking soft drinks and sweetened drinks.

Correct Way Of Eating Fruits






Something to share….
I am sure we have been advised to eat more fruits but the question is there are still many of us do not eat fruits at the right time. May be we are still being ignorance because of our habitual way of eating fruits immediately after meals. In actual fact, we are supposed to eat fruits in between meals, at least minimum one hour before or one hour after a meal, meaning fresh fruits are to be eaten empty stomach. Ideally we should eat fruits as snack between meals.

I have changed to the correct way of eating fruits. How about you?

How To Stay Young


I came across this in a Japanese restaurant in Jambi, located on 1st floor of Well Top Center (WTC) overlooking Batanghari River. Well, if we discipline ourselves and stick to “Positive Eating” & “Positive Living”, there is no doubt that we are able to stay young and live on with God’s blessings.

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids?

If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

"How old are you?" "I'm 4 and a half!"
(You're never 36 and a half.)

You're 4 and a half, going on 5!
(That's the key.)

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back.

You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

"How old are you?" "I'm going to be 16!"
(You could be 13, but hey, you're going to be 16!)

And then the greatest day of your life . . . . You become 21.
(Even the words sound like a ceremony . . . You BECOME 21.
YESSSS!!!)

But then you turn 30.
Oooohh, what happened there?

Makes you sound like bad milk.
He TURNED; we had to throw him out.

There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling.
What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21. You TURN 30, Then you're PUSHING 40.
(Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away.)

Before you know it, you REACH 50 . . . and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70!
After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle.
You HIT lunch. You TURN 4:30. You REACH bedtime.

And it doesn't end there.

Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I was JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens.

If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

In the Bible, the LORD said, “I will not allow people to live forever; they are mortal. From now on they will live no longer than 120 years.” (Genesis 6:3) So my friends, all of us can make it to a healthy 100 and a half if we change our bad eating habits. God had warned us, “No fat of animals shall be eaten,” and “Never use the blood of birds or animals for food.” (Leviticus 7:23 & 26) Why? Our doctors used to tell us that the excess fats we eat can influence the level of cholesterol in our blood and can increase the level of triglycerides. Saturated fats raise blood cholesterol. Blood of birds or animals is no good for consumption as it contains bacteria, virus, and other toxins. Remember, the next time you order steak, make sure it’s “well done”! Always eat right (cereals, beans and nuts; less meat but more on white meat), eat green (fruits & vegetables) and drink more plain water (also Chinese tea & honey) that make you look good and to slow down aging.

Sleep well and exercise enough. Staying up late till midnight or early morning and having too little or never exercise are bad health habits. Quit smoking if you want to live long. Studies have shown that smoking increases heart rate, narrows blood vessels, raises blood pressure, scars our lungs, and can cause spasms of the coronary arteries.

Don’t worry too much. Be happy most of the time. Always be joyful and often have good laughter, long and loud, with cheerful friends. Keep smiling to make more friends. In Proverbs 17:22a, it was written, “Being cheerful keeps you healthy.”

Love your beighbour and always be kind and forgive others. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity. GOD said, “Be kind and honest and you will live a long life; others will respect you and treat you fairly.” (Proverbs 21:21)

Jimmy Tan is my childhood friend in our hometown, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. He used to tell me how he enjoys “armchair travelling” at home watching his favourite Astro’s programme. For a pensioner like him after retirement, his house is his refuge. He told me he travelled quite a bit lately, visiting his children in Ipoh and just returned from Kuantan with his wife.

A doctor, in his study on the care of the elderly, found that people who lived above 100 years of age all had one thing in common. These centenarians had a positive outlook on purpose in life. To them the future looked bright. They had a reason to be alive even at old age.

When comedian Bob Hope left the world’s stage few years ago, he died at age of 100 years. He looked younger than many others and had lived a long life all because he gave laughter to his audiences and shared his happiness with many other people around the world.

Two thousand years ago, JESUS said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35) Sharing is a form of giving. I believe that the more we share and give, the more we are blessed. Everyday is a gift from GOD. Thank GOD for today. Each day when we wake up, we thank GOD for keeping us vitally alive and filling us with boundless energy and excellent health. Thank GOD that we are able to stay young as we age gracefully. GBU & PTL

7 Principles Of Eagle

An ecologist was astonished to see an eagle in a poultry farm but its behaviour was no difference from other chickens. The farm owner told him that he found an angle egg and put it together with other chicken eggs for the hen to hatch. It’s no more an eagle as it grew up with the chicks.

The ecologist believed that once an angle was born, it should remain as an eagle. He asked for permission to pick up that eagle and threw it up into the sky, anticipating that it would stretch out its wings and started to fly. However, the eagle dropped to the ground and mingled with the chicks and followed them eating the chicken feed.

Asking for a 2nd chance, the ecologist took the eagle and climbed up the water tower. He hoped that this time it was high enough for the eagle to stretch its wings to fly. The eagle could still see its chicken friends down below. It dropped back to the ground and joined them happily eating the chicken feed.

Without giving up, the ecologist asked for the last chance to prove that an eagle was an eagle. He brought the eagle up to the hill top far away from the poultry farm. “Eagle, this is where you are belonged,” the ecologist threw the eagle into the sky. This time the eagle could not see its chicken friends, naturally it stretched out its wings and soared away into the sky.

Don’t be a chicken if you were born to be an eagle!


Are you just like the eagle bred and grown up in a chicken farm? Acquired the same behaviours of chicken in scratching the soil on the ground to look for worms and insects to feed on? So well adapted to the living environment of the chicken farm that simply refused to stretch out its wings and soared like a real eagle? Believing that you are just one of them but knowing that your odd appearance is so much difference from them?

Surely you will agree with me that we cannot become what were born to be if we choose to remain where we are and what we are. Just like an eagle grown up in the chicken farm not knowing how to fly would have died as a chicken if not being discovered by the ecologist. God wants us to discover our wings (potential) to experience the thrill of flying. He will lift us up and throw us into the sky to find our wings and stretch them fully out in order to soar into high sky. He wants us to maximize our potential and move on into our purpose in life that He has given us. Remember, if we were born to be eagles, God wants us to be born winners, not “born losers”.

Apple Juice & Removal Of Gallstones

Dr Lai Chiu Nan’s 6 Days apple juice treatment works wonderfully to remove gallstones in a natural way. I came to know this more than 10 years ago and many of my friends have benefited from this treatment without going for operation.

Ah Thien of Sabah almost had his gallbladder operated in the hospital in 1996. When we met up in Sandakan just few days before his operation appointment, he gave it a try when I told him about this apple juice treatment. One day Alan Yap of Lahad Datu called me and asked for the apple juice treatment for his Indonesian mandore who refused to go for operation. According to Alan, his worker suffered great pain and could hardly walk. One week later, Alan called again saying that his worker still suffered the pain. I told Allan to bring his worker to see Lee MK who could witness to him so that he would repeat the 6 Days treatment one more time. Later I received good news from Allan that his worker was able to walk without pain after passing out the gallstones. No operation was required. Lee also told me that the worker thanked him many times whenever they met each other in Lahad Datu town for the encouragement and confidence given to him.

On 4/10/2005 when I and my family visited David Vun, my old friend, in Sydney, Australia I told him and his wife about this apple juice treatment. After my return to Malaysia, he asked me to email him the write up of the treatment. Later he told me that it worked and he had passed on to his friends and relatives.

To be more effective, drink green apple juice. You can buy 100% pure apple juice from supermarket in 2 liters packing. The treatment needs 6 liters only (4 x 250ml = 1 liter per day). Nevertheless, do include apple juice as one of your daily drinks. It’s good for you.


REMOVING GALLSTONES NATURALLY by Dr Lai Chiu-Nan
Gallstones may not be everyone's concern but may lead to cancer. We all have them (big or small, many or few). "Cancer is never the 1st illness. There are a lot of other problems leading to cancer. I came across some materials stating that people with cancer usually had stones,” said Dr Lee of China.
One symptom of gallstones is a feeling of bloatedness after a heavy meal as if you can't digest the food. If it gets more serious, you feel pain in the liver area." Dr Lee offers the apple juice treatment which is good for those with a weak liver. Liver and gallbladder are closely linked.
1) Drink 1 glass (250ml) 100% apple juice 4 times a day for 5 days. 1 glass at breakfast, 1 glass at unch, 1 glass at dinner & 1 glass before going to bed. It softens the gallstones. Eat normally.
2) On the 6th day, skip dinner. At 6pm, take a teaspoon of Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) with a glass of warm water. At 8 PM, repeat the same for purging purpose. It helps to flush out all solid stuff. It also opens the gallbladder ducts. At 10 PM, drink half a glass of olive oil mixed with half a glass of lemon juice. The oil lubricates the stones to ease their passage. Lemon juice helps to extract the stones out from gallbladder ducts.

Soon you will purge again. This time you can find greenish stuff floating in your toilet bowl, if you have gallstones. "You may want to count them. I have had people who passed out 40, 50 or up to 100 stones.” as told by Br Lee. "Even if you don’t have any symptoms of gallstones, you still might have some. It's always good to give your gall bladder a clean-up every now and then.”
